The Louisiana Museum of Modern Art is a leading international art museum and an absolute top attraction in Denmark. Arthur Jafa: APEX - 23.06.2026 - 27.09.2026 Arthur Jafa’s major work APEX is an intense flow of images, with hundreds of stills shown at high speed to Robert Hood’s techno track Minus. The work explores Black American culture through images of beauty, horror, history, pop culture, violence, art and musical rhythm. 700 Nimes Road - 28.04.2026 - 18.10.2026 Catherine Opie’s photo series 700 Nimes Road takes you inside the Beverly Hills home of Hollywood icon Elizabeth Taylor. Through 50 photographs, Opie captures glamour, everyday life and the memory of a vanished film star in a sensitive portrait of home, myth and human presence.

Through a variety of artistic expressions, the exhibition explores friendship, community, nature, hope and the human ability to hold on to joy in difficult times.   Gammel Strand’s café has one of the city’s most charming courtyards, while the shop offers exclusive Danish and international art books, lithographs and design objects. Den Frie Centre of Contemporary Art is a must see in Copenhagen for anyone interested in art and architecture. Den Frie was founded by artists in 1898 and is one of the oldest venues for contemporary art in Denmark. It is in itself a unique and very beautiful wooden building designed by famous artist J.F. Willumsen. Den Frie’s fundamental aim is to present the very latest in contemporary art. We host exhibitions by national and international artists, all of which address current issues. The extensive programme of exhibitions and events are evidence of Den Frie’s role as an active platform for living art and
art production, and the commitment to contribute to contemporary existence. With its relaxed and welcoming atmosphere, Den Frie is also a popular meeting place for artists, students, tourists and the many locals who pass by. Exhibitions (denfrie.dk): OSLO – Senga Nengudi: Sand and Water, 22.05.2026 - 27.09.2026 Senga Nengudi is a central figure in recent American art history, known for a practice that moves between sculpture, performance, dance and poetry. Sand and Water is her first solo exhibition in Denmark and the Nordic region. Developed in close collaboration with the artist, the exhibition presents a new site-specific installation created for Den Frie’s exhibition space OSLO. The installation includes sand, metal, glass, rubber, textiles, colour pigments, sound and found objects, exploring themes such as memory, loss, labour, nature and transformation. The exhibition also presents Nengudi’s water sculptures, where coloured water is enclosed in transparent plastic. The works balance between the organic and the artificial, offering a sensory insight into an artistic practice that challenges the boundaries between body, material and space. Nervetråde, 12.09.2026 – 01.11.2026 (the exhibition opens on 11 September 2026 from 5–9 PM)The exhibition explores the grotesque, connecting the nervous mood of literature around 1900 with the unease and strangeness of contemporary life. Danish and international artists use distortion, contrasts and the absurd to challenge our perception of reality. Copenhagen Contemporary (CC) is Copenhagen’s international art center showing installation art created by world stars and new emerging talentsIt occupies the magnificent former B&W welding hall offering a total of 7,000 m2 of beautiful industrial halls with plenty of space to show the technical and large formats in which many contemporary artists work: total installations, performance art, and monumental video works. MAPS – Museum for Art in Public Spaces is one of the only museums in the world dedicated to exploring, communicating, and debating art in public spaces. The museum presents innovative exhibitions with Danish and international artists, showcasing how art can challenge, reflect, and change the world we live in. MAPS provides art projects in public spaces that dare to take new paths, creating unexpected encounters between people and urban spaces. At the museum, you can explore different exhibitions, participate in children's activities, guided tours, and other events. At MAPS’ café, you can enjoy sustainable reinterpretations of classic Danish open-faced sandwiches and toast, delicious cakes, freshly brewed coffee, organic wine and beer, and much more.
